Designed by architect Raymond Moriyama and opened in 1973, the Scarborough Civic Centre served as the borough’s city hall until amalgamation in 1998. Its twin pyramid roofs, reflecting pool, and Albert Campbell Square remain one of Toronto’s most distinctive postwar public buildings.

After amalgamation

Toronto City Council continues to use the building for east district offices. The adjacent Scarborough Town Centre and Albert Campbell Square host farmers markets, cultural festivals, and community events throughout the year.

Try this

  • Photograph the pyramids from Albert Campbell Square on a clear day
  • Walk the indoor passage to Scarborough Town Centre for coffee
  • Visit during Scarborough Ribfest or winter market events when scheduled

Good to know

TTC Scarborough Centre Station (Line 3 / bus connections) sits steps away. The building interior has limited public access. Check City of Toronto hours for community services.
